August 7, 1945
...Played a basketball [Oscar excelled at basketball while attending school at Roane County High] game last nite. Out of shape. See all the movies here. One every nite. Usually aren't so bad. Haven't been swimming any here but may try to go down this afternoon.
Kinda warm here in the day time but cool at night. Really glad to get away from those mosquito nets. We have our tent screened in and it isn't bad. Had several arguments in the building but you can guess who won out.
Well the mail seems to have stalled again. Guess I'll get another pile one of these days.
You folks are probably taking it easy now aren't you? All the crops laid by. Guess the melons are pretty good sized by now. I'd really like to tie into a big one & no kidding.
Hope Frank or Mac [Oscar's younger brothers] haven't been taken by Uncle Sam yet. Looks like they won't see action any how. How about this new bomb they have out. Must be rather powerful, Huh? They'll probably sink Japan in one big raid with those. Rough.
Just noticed in our paper the Bomber Baronet about Oak Ridge producing the atomic bombs...
