Sept 15, 1945

...I've been doing some more ferrying around over here. Not too much fun. We have only twelve guys who can fly first pilot & I'm one of them. They have about 25 crews & picked 12 of the hottest pilots (they said) to do the flying, too many accidents from some of the new pilots. I guess I'm the only new guy that is flying first pilot. I'm not too tickled over it tho - too much flying.
Guess you folks are thinking of buying a new car. I know I'm going to have one when they are available. You know what, I wish I had gotten over here sooner. The guys with 200 combat hours are going home. I'm going to have all of one ribbon, a lot of decoration. Huh? Well that's tough isn't it?
You asked if I got in on any bombing. Yes I did. Nothing to it tho. I also done a ferry job to Okinawa & a recon mission over Formosa. That was the 13 hr one. Right now I need some sleep. Got to bed last nite at about 12:30 & had gotten up at 2:30 that morning. Twenty two hrs is a long time to stay up if over half of it is in the air.
Well I'd better mail this. Got to get over to the orderly room
