Aug 9, 1945
...I've been listening to the radio & from all reports we'll be on our way home soon. Say I guess you've read in the papers about the 13th being moved to Okinawa. May be the war will be over before they can move.
Say about this bomb it is really unbelievable isn't it? Guess people are moving out of East Tenn in high gear. HA HA. How about that for a big deal. I'll have to get me a job there after the war. Its even too big to think about but I guess they can control it. Looks like we hold the big stick now. Russia has declared war on Japan. Good idea now that we have the big bomb. Guess there's a great stir over the whole thing. Every body is talking about it over here.
I'm in the club now drinking coffee. Really like it now. I'm going to be a little diff. In my eating habits when I get home. You can just start cooking right now...
