Samar, Oct 3, 1945

...I've been down in a jeep "sweating" off our ships. I have a little job here now, deputy flight commander. Nothing to it I guess.
Just got back from sick call. A little heat rash & "jungle rot." They are curing it O.K. I guess I've been going for a month now (that is to sick call). Nothing serious tho.
Almost got sunburned the other day. Was out working on a volley ball court & stayed a bit too long...
